Bern, Switzerland, March 10, 2010 - Comfone, provider of roaming services to more than 300 operators in over 130 countries, today announced the renewal of its sponsorship for the GSMA roaming coverage maps. The maps are a unique resource containing information supplied and approved by the members of the GSM Association.
The rapid growth of global mobile roaming in the past decade made it essential for the GSMA to provide network coverage information for its members. The first GSMA world map was launched in 2005 to illustrate GSM roaming coverage. As a leader in the global mobile roaming market, Comfone recognised the value of the GSM map coverage concept from its inception and is proud to have been associated with the maps since their launch five years ago.
Today the map family includes regional maps for Europe, Asia Pacific, the Americas and the Arab world. The maps not only illustrate GSM coverage but also 3GSM and satellite coverage for over 860 networks in 219 countries/areas of the world. In the constantly evolving world of mobile communications, the GSMA online coverage maps are also enabled for browsing on mobile devices. Comfone understands the changing needs of mobile network operators globally and is proud to annually sponsor the GSMA’s range of coverage maps which benefit all GSM network operators worldwide.
Comfone CEO, Mathias Prüssing, stated that “As an associate member of the GSMA and active participant in GSMA standardisation groups, Comfone contributes to all relevant GSMA committees, holds editorship for several permanent reference documents and chairmanship of a subcommittee. Our sponsorship of the GSMA maps represents an additional cornerstone of Comfone’s committed engagement and support of the GSMA.”
