In recent months, we have been discussing why MNOs should use Comfone’s IPX Signalling Services.
We have learnt what signalling is in the context of Wholesale Roaming from our blog about Roaming Mobility Signalling.
In basic terms, roaming signalling is like the oxygen of the roaming business. Without the signalling, there is no roaming.
No roaming means revenue and reputation loss for Mobile Network Operators (MNOs) – no Roaming Manager wants that!
Building a Business Continuity Plan for your wholesale roaming business is a wise choice.
As an MNO, you need to have an IPX provider to offer international roaming services. You can choose to either work with a single, exclusive Signalling Provider or to use two or more providers.
Single Signalling Carrier Vs Multi-Signalling Provider
Using a single signalling carrier means less vendor management overhead and lower costs. However, if signalling service failures occur, roaming will be affected.
A Multi-Signalling provider strategy leads to increased routing overhead, vendor costs, management and manual network changes where signalling incidents occur. However, it does offer an insurance policy and peace of mind in the event of signalling service failures.
At Comfone, we have devised a solution offering the best of both worlds. It allows you to implement redundancy while removing the need for manual network changes.
We do this by implementing two or more IPX Signalling Carriers who work together. They design and build a so-called Automatic Signalling Failover Solution.
This means that if the service of one IPX Signalling Provider fails in any way, it will automatically switch over to the other IPX Signalling Provider without manual intervention and, crucially, without delay.
So, how does it work?
Implementing a Business Continuity Plan in Wholesale Roaming Signalling
If you are not yet using Comfone’s IPX Signalling Services, the first step is to onboard Comfone as your signalling provider.
We will then implement a business continuity plan by working with one (or more) of your other signalling providers. We configure special routing mechanisms for 2G, 3G (SS7) and LTE (Diameter) Signalling traffic over the existing IPX peering links.
Once this in place, if there are any issues with one provider’s signalling service, it will automatically and seamlessly switch over to the other provider. Roaming will work with no downtime and no revenue loss.
But there’s more…
As we have been showcasing, Comfone IPX signalling customers benefit from our value-added services, which we provide in addition to our signalling service. These benefits include:
- Traffic statistics reporting
- Roaming business monitoring applications
- Key2roam Hub
- Improved security
- Steering of Roaming
- Interface to 5G satellite services
- Better NOC support
- Transition to 5G SA roaming
- Improved data analytics in our roaming business intelligence
- And more!
With all of these advantages in mind, it makes sense to assign Comfone as your primary signalling carrier.
